China Service

Questions of corporate responsibility collide in China with great force. The country’s significant environmental and social challenges have major implications for companies wishing to do business there responsibly – either as a buyer of raw materials or manufactured goods or as a local investor. Corporate Citizenship’s specialist China Service comprises team members with direct in-country experience: they can advise on the full range of issues you may face – from design of corporate strategy through to supply chain and community investment.

Chinese companies entering European and US markets face considerable challenges too. As international companies, they face international expectations from a wider range of stakeholders than in their home markets.   With fluent Mandarin speakers in our team, we are well placed to advise Chinese multi-nationals on how to navigate these expectations and work towards becoming a better corporate citizen.

Our China Service helps you to address five crucial areas:

Knowing the business environment

  • Country and issues briefing – concise and up to date overview of socio-political and economic developments and geo-political risks plus specific concerns such as supply chain, community investment, NGO engagement, consumer and media issues, health and safety and HIV/Aids.
  • Competitor benchmarking – focused studies on what competitors and peers are doing in the area of corporate citizenship by sector, issue or combination of the two.

Supply chain issues

  • Supply chain risks: mapping the value chain from source to consumer, assessing the issues and the risks, helping you to prioritise and offering practical ideas on how to manage them.
  • Training for procurement managers on ethical sourcing and responsible behaviour in China: targeted either at corporate headquarters or tailored towards local teams in-country.

Stakeholder engagement

  • NGO/stakeholder mapping and engagement: identify, prioritise and map key groups in China that are important to the company’s business and its licence to operate.
  • Convene and facilitate meetings with key stakeholder groups (local community groups/local or international NGOs, consumer associations, local government officials and media).

Community investment

  • Develop a community investment strategy: identify, assess and recommend potential partners for your community investment strategy.
  • Measuring results: drawing on our successful LBG model, advise on all aspects of input, output and impact measurement for community programmes.

Country reporting

  • Writing country reports: unrivalled experience in assisting companies with in-country sustainability reports, in developing data systems and in writing a China country report.
