Aviva
We were asked by Aviva to review progress made in CSR during the year in order to provide assurance over the company’s CSR Report. The assurance also covered carbon data collection-related processes. To do this, we:
- interviewed key group executives (including Aviva’s Group Chairman, CEO and Chairman of the Board CSR committee) and CSR nominated managers from seven of Aviva’s largest businesses;
- reviewed a selection of relevant group CSR documentation;
- reviewed the CSR progress reports received from each of the Aviva businesses covering CSR activities during the year;
- reviewed that information in the Report has been correctly transposed from internal reporting processes;
- reviewed media and carried out desk-based research to ensure that material CSR issues/ events were not overlooked in the Report or given inappropriate focus.
For the carbon emissions accounting and quantification, work was carried out to understand the systems in place with reference to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard.
Following this process, we were able to provide Aviva with an assurance statement, and a management report highlighting strengths and improvement opportunities. The management report was informed by AA1000 Assurance Standard.
